Dr. Dongbao Chen

Dr. Dongbao Chen is a tenured professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Pathology at the University of California Irvine. He received PhD in Reproductive Physiology from China Agricultural University (1991) and did postdoctoral trainings at Baylor College of Medicine (1993-1995) and University of Kansas School of Medicine (1995-1998). He was a Research Faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (1999-2001). With his first NIH R01 award, he established an independent perinatal research program at University of California San Diego (UCSD) in 2001. After granted tenure at UCSD in 2007, he relocated to University of California Irvine in 2008 and advanced to full professor in 2013. He investigates H2S signaling and its interactions with NO at the proteome to regulate uterine hemodynamics and placental function. With continuous NIH R01 funding since 2001, his research has resulted in >100 original research papers in respectful scientific journals and >170 abstracts in scientific conferences to comprehend maternal-fetal interface vasodilation and angiogenesis in normal pregnancy and pregnancy complications preeclampsia and fetal growth restriction. He served on many advisory grant review panels for NIH, NSF, AHA in the US and many international funding agencies such as NMRC-Singapore, Welcome Trust-UK, and NSF of Switzerland, Austria, and China, and currently a standing member of NIH Pregnancy and Neonatology Study Section. He also serves on the editorial boards of many Scientific Journals, including Endocrinology and Biology of Reproduction.
