Dr. Assaad A. Eid is a professor at the American University of Beirut, where he serves as the Chairperson of the Department of Anatomy, Cell Biology, and Physiological Sciences, as well as the Associate Dean for Basic/Translational Research and Graduate Studies. He earned his Doctorate Degree in Endocrinology and Metabolism from Claude Bernard University, Lyon 1, France in 2006, followed by four years of postdoctoral training in Medicine and Nephrology at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in Texas, USA, under the supervision of Dr. Hanna E. Abboud. Dr. Eid also holds a Master's Degree in Biomedical Engineering from Claude Bernard University, Lyon 1, France, and an Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) from Olayan School of Business at the American University of Beirut (AUB).
Dr. Eid is an internationally renowned researcher who oversees cutting-edge research and an international network of collaborations focused on several complications of diabetes, including cancer and depression. His lab focuses on translational research that has contributed to identifying several signaling pathways involved in the development of diabetic complications and designing a non-invasive glucose-monitoring device for diabetic patients (eDiamond). As part of his entrepreneurial endeavors and multidisciplinary collaborations, Dr. Eid and his AUB colleagues co-founded two USA-based startups: Teucer Biotech and VitaeMD. Dr. Eid has been recognized with several national and international awards for his outstanding contributions to the field.
