Michael Heile MD, FAAFP is a board-certified family physician and T1D (for about 30 years). He graduated from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in 1994 and St. Elizabeth Family Practice Residency in Northern Kentucky in 1997.  He has practiced with The Family Medical Group since 1997. He served as the Trihealth Institution Physician Diabetes Champion from 2015-2017. Dr. Heile started a support group for T1D’s in 1998. He is an associate editor for the ADA magazine "Clinical Diabetes" and serves as a reviewer for many peer reviewed journal articles. He frequently also serves as a speaker/advisor/consultant for diabetes related pharmaceutical, insulin pump, and CGM companies. He was the primary investigator for a type one diabetic pump study using mentors to improve glucose control and has authored several diabetes related journal articles.  He enjoys caring for diabetic patients and using intensive insulin regimens which often involve insulin pumps, CGM technologies, and automated insulin delivery systems. He believes not only in tight glycemic control but quality of life as well. He is and exercise enthusiast (has run six full marathons) and enjoys writing, recording, and performing music at local venues and festivals.
