Dr. Åke Sjöholm has been extensively involved in
diabetology for the past 30+ years, both research wise and daily clinical
duties, serving large outpatient clinics.
He received his undergraduate training at Uppsala
University medical school 1982-88, earned a Ph.D. there in 1991, M.D. in 1993,
was appointed associate professor at Karolinska Institute in 1994 and became
boarded specialist in internal medicine in 1998.
Dr. Sjöholm has published some 160 full papers in top
international journals (Nature, Lancet, Science, PNAS, JBC, Diabetes, JCI,
Endocrinology etc.) and has received several national and international
diabetes awards. He has been the chief supervisor of 10 completed Ph.D.
Since 2017 he serves as Senior Clinical Consultant at
the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Endocrinology and Diabetology
at Gävle Hospital. Academically, Dr. Sjöholm currently holds an adjunct
professorship at the University of Gävle.
Dr. Sjöholm is considered a leading KOL in diabetology
and has served on multiple pharmaceutical advisory boards.
