Prof. Joseph Shapira was the Chairman of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry, Hebrew University-Hadassah Faculty of Dental Medicine, Jerusalem, Israel between 2002-2014. Following his graduation from the Hebrew University-Hadassah Faculty of Dental Medicine in Jerusalem in 1974, he specialized for two years in Pediatric Dentistry, with special emphasis on dentistry for Special Needs individuals at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), University of Pennsylvania, USA.

Prof. Shapira is a Full Professor in Pediatric Dentistry and an expert in Dentistry for Special Needs and High Risk Medically Compromised Patients as well as in the Use of Sedative Agents regarding management of anxiety and behavior control. He has published more than 100 articles in refereed International Journals, he is a reviewer of Int. J Paediatr Dent, Arch Dent Scien, Angle Ortho, Editorial Board of EC Dent Science J and has lectured on these subjects around the world.
